I had the opportunity to get away this past weekend down the South Coast. The weekend was originally intended for the cleaning of the very dirty pool, but we blew that off for a relaxing weekend in Mollymook instead.
You're probably wondering why I'm bothering to write about this in the blog, it has nothing to do with our renovation. Well, it actually turned out to be a much more productive weekend than first imagined.
For those of you who don't know the South Coast all that well, it is a quiet little area where the majority of Canberran's go to escape the heat. It is made up of a series of coastal towns, one of which includes Milton.
Milton is a gorgeous little town where country meets the coast, it is a little alternate and surprisingly on trend! We spent Saturday morning poking around the shops there and we were pleasantly surprised to find beautiful boutique home wares stores that stocked a vast array of emerging designer products. What shocked me even more was that the items in the store were probably 50% less than you would find in Canberra (or even online).
We stumbled across a little store off the main street called Kits Design. It is a family owned boutique store that stocked incredible cushions, rugs and throws imported from Europe. The cushions in particular were unique in their design and made to last and best of all were under $100.
The other little shop worth noting was Spaces@2538 - it is everything you would imagine an on trend boutique to be these days except that she was charging half the price of what you would expect to pay. There were lots of little eclectic items for your house including pendants - we managed to find our feature lights for the Master and Guest Bedroom for under $400 all up.
The third and final store that made it into my top three was Home At Last. This shop stocked a huge range of home wares from prints to cushions to hammocks, it really did have a little of everything. I picked up this gorgeous little toy for my friend who is about to have a baby (I can't share photos yet because the baby is still in the belly, I'd hate to spoil her surprise).
I've only mentioned three of many stores worth visiting if you ever get down to Milton. The thing I liked most about them was it wasn't filled with mass produced items that you know your neighbor is going to have in their house too! If you ever have a spare weekend I would recommend jumping in the car and heading down to Milton to check it out for yourself, it's only a two and a bit hour drive from Canberra or Sydney! Of course if you're time poor, they all have online stores you can shop at home! And we still managed to squeeze in a cocktail or two at Bannisters!
